Gold Coast is enjoying the last few weeks of humidity-free winter!

To all of our supporters, we never forget the time, effort, and donations you provide, in helping the Orlando branch of Gold Coast Greyhounds. And potential adopters - get to know us and our hounds at our next two events in March 2014, at the Orlando Brewing Company and the Seminole County Adopt-a-thon!

Volunteers and Foster Homes
In 2014, new volunteers are teaming up with long-time supporters to inject new ideas and life into our program, and we appreciate their insight and experience.

Fostering and volunteers are still our greatest need. Gold Coast took in 205 retired racers in 2013. This is less than last year but still every dog we help is a victory. We took in more broken-leg dogs in 2013, which means tying up a foster home for a longer period of time and also increases our costs. Fortunately, we have the help from Blue Ridge Greyhounds and Pocono's Greyhound Adoptions to help with this cost. We are limited in what we do by the number of foster homes so I always encourage every adopter to foster just one dog to pay back the debt to the foster home that willingly fostered your greyhound. Please call Judy Shamp at 407-797-6380 if you would like to help in 2014.

Fundraisers and Events

Thanks to the creativity of our volunteers, we're about to repeat a new and exciting fundraiser at the Orlando Brewing Company. The event is set for Saturday, March 16, 2014 Our inaugural brewery event in October 2013 event included vendors, a food truck and a silent auction. Even if you don't drink beer, you'll find plenty of activities and camaraderie with other greyhounds and their owners!

Pookie's Bow Wow Bakery in Winter Park also continues to be one of our best meet and greet venues. Their location and customers provide a mix for exposure, adoptions and fund raising. We would like to continue this meet and greet on a regular basis. Pookie's has been a great supporter of adoptions in the Orlando area and has taken a special interest in Gold Coast, their donations of dog food have filled a vital need in our operation.

Our meet and greet at Sanford Orlando Track is also popular and a great way to educate the public about the greyhound as a pet. The track also supports all of our adoption efforts and has been especially helpful with extra donations for some of our injured dogs.

The Sebastian Haul Foundation has been instrumental in helping to fund our hauls. If we did not have this help, we would be unable to ship dogs to our northern adoption group partners. We simply cannot place the number of available dogs locally to help enough dogs find homes. So, even as we sometimes say sad good-byes to our foster dogs, we know they are going to wonderful homes especially profiled for them.

Don't forget to try Life's Abundance pet foods! No artificial flavors, no artificial colors, no corn or corn gluten, no wheat or wheat gluten, orders come quick, and a portion of the proceeds from sales using the link above goes directly to Gold Coast.

Another great fundraiser for Gold Coast is the sale of Life's Abundance Pet Food. As new people continue to buy from our website or from a Gold Coast representative, our monthly income grows. Current sales pay for as many as three vet visits each month, enough to spay or neuter, vaccinate and do a dental on three dogs. Thank you to all of our customers and reps that believe in the product and see the results in their greyhound.

One last request: as you look at your charitable donations for 2014, remember Gold Coast. As a 501c3 non-profit we rely heavily on your support and donations. If you are looking for a way to help these deserving retired racers, scroll up to the "Make a Donation" button on the right to donate via Pay Pal or mail a check to Gold Coast Greyhound Adoptions, Inc. 2426 Euston Road, Winter Park, FL 32789. All donations are tax deductible. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to hearing from you in 2014!
